Libraries around the world have downloaded MARC from OCLC, LC, and the National Central Library of each country for the past 50 years, and used it for their respective libraries. However, since the most recent MARC published today does not exist anywhere, each library has built and used MARC by librarians themselves.
In addition, MARC is expressed in numbers, so if even a small part is wrong, the whole data is twisted or the characters are broken. In order to solve this problem, the library community around the world made a lot of effort, but all failed to develop the technology, so this problem remained a big proposition of the world library for a long time.
After efforts to solve this problem, LIBERTREE Inc. developed a Real-time MARC Solution to solve the big proposition of the global library industry. And its core technology was patented in 2019 (No. 10-459008), and an international patent application was filed (PCT 2009-003305). In addition, following patent registration in Japan, we have applied for patents in individual countries such as the United States, China, Europe, India, Indonesia, and Russia.
MARC is expressed numerically and can only be edited by a professional librarian, so it is difficult to access, but MARCXML and MODS are superior to MARC in stability, scalability, and efficiency, and because they are expressed in text, anyone can easily edit them. The trend of replacing MODS is changing to the central format of libraries in developed countries. In line with this, LIBERTREE Inc. has even developed a technology to generate MARCXML and MODS in real time.
Now, it is possible to easily and quickly convert the MARC of the books owned by each library to MARCXML or MODS at once, and this technology is unique to LIBERTREE Inc. in Korea.
LIBERTREE Inc. will do its best to standardize and improve the quality of Korean library bibliographic data.
